International Women’s day observed in Imphal East

8th March 2020,(DIPR) Imphal: International Women’s Day cum Kishori Mela under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative was observed at Imphal East District with the theme “I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights” today. 

Organised by the District Administration, Imphal East the day also saw the launching of Poshan Pakhwada 2020 under Poshan Abhiyaan which will end on 22 March 2020. 

The day started with the BBBP Run to encourage and create awareness regarding Girl Child. Furthermore, fun activities/games/competitions were held in which AWWs, ASHAs, SHGs, School children, NYK volunteers among others participated. Stalls were put up by all line departments like CMO, ICDS, ICPS, SW, SBI bank, MRB, etc to provide awareness on the services and on spot registration under certain schemes were done.

This was followed by a formal function. Smt R.K Taruni, Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad, Imphal West, Smt. P Bimola Devi, Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad, Imphal East, and Dr. Rangitabali Waikhom, Deputy Commissioner, Imphal East were the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and functional President respectively. 

The programme started with the launch of the Poshan Pakhwada with the aim to increase male engagement to improve nutritional outcomes and emphasize on a door-to-door campaign. A special message was also given by the Deputy Commissioner on National Hearing Awareness Campaign, GuddiGudda boards (under BBBP) were distributed to all AWCs of Imphal East to monitor the sex ratio of the AWC at monthly basis. 

Media personal, Sagolsem Snehprabha, Manager of Publication, Directorate of Information & Public Relations, Manipur and Longjam Arishrona, of The People’s Chronicle, VLF (Village level Federation), Best Performing G.Ps were also felicitated for their contributions at their respective fields. 

The Chief Guest and the President talked about the important roles which women hold in every field and how we should encourage women's representation at our best level. The event ended with a Prize distribution ceremony for all the activities that had taken place.
