Manju Elangbam bags Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, 2018 (Manipuri Dance) & A. Aneshori Devi receives Yuva Puraskar (Traditional & Folk Dance)

Imphal, the 19th August,2019, DIPR: Governor  Dr. Najma Heptulla  states that the Art & Culture of Manipur is second to none in India and that we must ensure for the survival of rich art & culture heritage. The Governor made the statement while attending the presentation ceremony of Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar-2018 as Chief Guestat Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal today. The Presentation Ceremony was organized by Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor congratulated the Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar Award-2018 awardees, especially, the two awardees from Manipur namely  Manju Elangbam who received  prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, 2018 in the field of Manipuri Dance and A. Aneshori Devi who has received this Yuva Puraskar in the field of Traditional & Folk Dance. She also expressed confidence that many more young talented artistes from the State will earn name and awards in different fields in the years to come and her best wishes will always be with them.

She further stated that any Art forms and traditions have taken long period of time to evolve. Dance and music symbolizing joys and jubilations of generations hold the imprints of their long social and cultural history and tradition. Artistes of every generation have interpreted them and further enriched the tradition. Keeping them alive is, therefore, a magnificent form of paying homage to our artistes and to our heritage. We must ensure the survival of our traditional art, our dance forms and our music. We should encourage our youth to keep these skills and creativity alive and robust. The Ustad Bismillah Khan Puraskar is such a step and the effort of SNA in this direction is commendable.

The Ustad Bismallah Khan Yuva Puraskar 2018 was awarded to 32 recipients in 4 different categories. In the Music  Category: Shameehan Kashalkar and Ruchira Kedar were awarded for Hindustan Vocal Music, Dhruv Bedi forHindustan Vocal Music- Sitar, Shubh Maharaj  for Hindustan Vocal Music - Tabla, Sandeep Narayan for Carnatic Vocal Music, JB Shruti Sagar for Carnatic Instrumental Music -  Flute, R.Sridhar for Carnatic Instrumental Music - Violin and MD Pallavi for Other Major Traditions of Music - Bhava Sangeet. In the Dance Category: Renjith Babu and Vijna Rani Vasudevan were jointly awarded for Bharatnatyam, Dugesh Gangani for Kathak, Kalamandalam Yaishak for Kathakali, Manju Elangbam for Manipuri, Madhulita Mohapatra for Odissi, Anjali Borbora Borthakur for Sattriya , Rkesh Sai Babu for Chhau and Vikram Mohan for Contrmporary Dance.

In Theatre Category: Chavan Pramod R was awarded for Direction, Namrata Sharma , Sunil Pawal and Priti Jha Tiwari were awarded for Acting, Kuldeep Patgiri for Mime, Subhadeep Guha was awarded  Music for Theatre and Kalamandalam Sajith Vijayan  for Other Major Traditions of Theatre -Kutiyattam. In the Traditional / Folk/  Tribal Music/ Dance/ Theatre and Puppetry: Chandan Tiwari of  Bihar was awarded for Folk Music, Dinesh Kumar Jangde of Chattisgarh - Panthi Dance, Manoj Kumat Das of Assam - Traditional Music (Khol), Chandni Manshih Zala of Gujarat - Pupetry, A.Aneshori Devi Devi of Manipur- Traditional & Folk Music, R.Rajkumar of Tamil Nadu - Folk Dance, Madhushree Hatial of West Bengal - Folk Music ( Jhumer) and Ashok Kumar of Uttar Pradesh - Folk Music (Birha).

The “Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar” was instituted by the Sangeet Natak Akademi in the year, 2006 to be awarded annually to young and upcoming artistes who have demonstrated notable talent in the fields of music, dance and drama. The Award is conferred upon artistes below the age of 40 years giving them national recognition early in their life so that they may work with greater commitment and dedication in their chosen fields.

The Award Ceremony was attended by also attended by Shri Shekhar Sen, Chairman  and Smt. Rita Swami Choudhary, Secretary of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi  apart from other distinguish guests from theatre, dance and art & culture field.
