MINISTER K SHYAM PAYS TRIBUTE TO DR LAMBAM KAMAL ON THE CURTAIN-RAISING OCCASION OF THE 2ND MANIPURI POETRY DAY

LETS CONTRIBUTE FOR THE SOCIETY WITH A SENSE OF SACRIFICE, SAYS MINISTER K SHYAM

 

Imphal, 10th October, 2018(DIPR): Hon’ble Minister, CAF & PD, Revenue, Shri Karam Shyam today paid homage to the statue of renowned poet and novelist Dr. Lamabam Kamal Singh at his Literary Complex at Langthabal Kunja Mayai Leikai Community Hall,  just 2 weeks prior to celebrating the Second Manipuri Poetry Day at Manipur Dramatic Union, Yaiskul on the 24th of this month.

The statue was unveiled by ex - Chief Minister Shri Okram Ibobi on 9 May, 2014 when Minister K Shyam was an MLA in his cabinet.

The Dr Kamal Singh Complex that was established with funding of Rs.10 lakhs by O Ibobi completed today with financial assistance of another 15 lakhs from Minister Shyam.

The event was organised with collaborative efforts from Naharol Sahitya Premee Samiti, Imphal, Fiction and Poetry Club, Manipur and Divine Life Club, Langthabal.

Speaking at the occasion as the Chief Guest, expressed that Minister Shyam he feels happy , honoured and satisfied that he got a chance to pay tribute to the statue of the renowned poet that started construction  during ex-Chief Minister Shri O Ibobi’s tenure.

Ningthoukhongjam Tombiraj, Chairman, Construction Committee, Dr. Lamabam Kamal Singh  Literary Complex; Professor Rajen Toijamba, HOD, Manipuri Department, MU;Yaiskyl Khwairakpam,President, Patriotic Writers’ Forum, Manipur and Yendrembam Ibopishak, President, Divine Life Club, Langthabal Kunja also attended the function as President and  Guests of Honour respectively.

During a short life span of around 35-36 years, the works of Dr.Kamal and his contribution in the field of literature for Manipur are highly commendable, Minister Karam Shyam appreciated.

The main factor for Kamal’s popularity lies in his writings’s that are able to touch the climax and also the human feelings and emotions communicated by means of pen and paper, he said.

Minister K Shyam felt that main objective behind observing the curtain raising ceremony of the Second Manipuri Poetry Day today is to acknowledge  the value of the poetries and literary works of Dr.Kamal apart from researching further on him and paying tributes to him.

He also said that talks are on with Chief Minister Shri N Biren to construct similar statues of Maharaj Nara Singh, Hirachandra & Maharaj Gambhir Singh and  for their innumerable contribution during Seven Years Devastation and as freedom fighters for the State.

The Government has already sanctioned Rs. 2 crores for construction of 13 feet high statues of  Maharaj Nara Singh &  Hirachandra with pedestal foundation by January 9, 2019, he announced the gathering.

Mentioning the memorable works of Dr.Kamal like Lei Pareng, novel Madhabi, Brojendrogi Luhongba and drama Devjjani, Professor Rajen Toijamba said that poet Dr.Kamal strived for a classless society without any discrimination.

His writings are related to his academic career groomed in Shillong Government School, Calucutta University, Dibrugarh Medical College and Tamenglong where he was posted as State Government employee, he informed.

Highlighting that the public’s participation is just because of the indomitable values of Kamal, he said that today’s rain showers is a sign of God’s blessings in disguise, he stated.

Renowned theatre personality, Loitongbam Dorendro, film personalities R.K. Jnananranjan and R.K. Hemabati recited poems during the function.

Scholars, art lovers of the State, elderly people and locals of Langthabal Kunja took part in the function. (DIPR )
