MINISTER SHYAMKUMAR INAUGURATES FIRST KAMO HAU CULTURAL FESTIVAL 2018

IMPHAL, March 23, 2022 (DIPR): Shri Thaounaojam Shyamkumar, Minister of Forest & Environment, MAHUD, Town Planning and Horticulture & Soil Conservation today inaugurated the 1st Kamo Hau Cultural Festival 2018 at Phalang village, Phungyar Sub-division under Kamjong district. The five-day festival is being organised by Kano Hau Arts and Cultural Organisation (KHACO) under the theme "Our Land, Our Culture".

Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function, Th. Shyamkumar stressed on the need for preserving the age old traditional culture both in the hills and valley. He said peace will prevail if traditional culture is preserved.

He assured the villagers that he will intimate the Chief Minister N. Biren Singh regarding the poor road conditions and lack of infrastructural development in the area. Stating that the practice of Jhum cultivation has been affecting environment in the State, he promised to take up possible steps to provide alternative livelihood means to the cultivators after consulting the village chiefs and village authorities. He said that he will visit the village soon within April 16 to take up development works which can be taken under his departments. He said to bring development the State Government needs cooperation from public. 

Shri Leishiyo Keishing, MLA Phungyar A/C, stressed on the importance and need to preserve the traditional culture of respective communities in the State. He said the age old traditional culture of our forefathers need preservation as it will be passed on to the younger generation. 

On his arrival at the Phalang village gate, Minister Th. Shyamkumar was accorded a grand welcome by the village headman accompanied by a large number of villagers. Traditional Tangkhul dance and other entertainment items were the highlights of the inaugural function.

District level officers, officials and staffs of Forest and Horticulture and Soil Conservation Departments, village headman and representatives of different village attended the event. (DIPR)
