IMPHAL, MARCH 22, 2022 (DIPR): Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD) Minister Shri Thounaojam Shyamkumar said that the 9 bio-toilets installed at the Kanglapat Road will be opened for the public for 24X7 from today.
Addressing the media persons at his New Secretariat office today, Minister Th. Shyamkumar clarified that the bio-toilets were locked for certain period of time following the norms/rules set by the manufacturer. He said that there is limited use of the bio-toilet during the first installment of the bio-toilet as there is a need for treatment using cultured bacteria. During the time period, the solid waste will be converted into liquid form using the treatment, he said.
He further appealed to the general public to prohibit usage of soap, tobacco products and other foreign objects inside the bio-toilet as it will hamper the process of natural treatment. Stating that large of number of people in the State consume tobacco products, he appealed for public cooperation so that the bio-toilets can be opened 24X7 successfully, as done in other states. The bio-toilets are installed to ease public inconvenience, he added.
Welcoming the daily newspaper report on bio-toilet, he said media plays an important role to rectify loopholes within the department. Stating that the MAHUD and Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) are working wholeheartedly for the welfare of the people, he hoped that the people will give full support for the welfare and development of the State.
Speaking on the sidelines regarding the development works taken up by his department, Minister Th. Shyamkumar said that the drafting of the Building Bye-Law for the State is under process. Building Bye-Laws are legal tools used to regulate area coverage, height, building bulk, architectural design and construction aspects of buildings among others, so as to achieve orderly development of an area in city and towns. The department has also ordered required number of dustbins to be installed at various locations apart from construction of public toilets at strategic areas, he added.
Minister Shyamkumar further appealed to those practicing Jhum Cultivation to stop burning of Forest areas for agriculture land to save the wildlife. He cautioned that those people endangering the wildlife will be booked under the Forest Act. (DIPR)
