Imphal, October 20, 2021 (DIPR): Education, Labour & Employment Minister Shri Thokchom Radheshyam, also the President of Manipur Olympic Association, Imphal lead the cleanliness drive as a part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan for the ensuing 1st North East Olympic Games, 2018 at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal.
The Minister stated that the first ever North East Olympic Games, 2018 will be held at Imphal from October 24 - October 28, 2021 at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex. Athletes will compete in twelve disciplines - Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Football, Judo, Karate-Do, Shooting, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Weightlifting and Wushu, he added.
The Minister accompanied by six hundred volunteers including the members of Manipur Olympic Association, concerned officials of Department of Youths Affairs & Sports, Sports Academy of India, police personnel, students and sportsperson conducted the social service at various locations of the Sports Complex. Th. Radheshyam said that as a part of promotion activity for upcoming the North East Olympic Games, which will be witnessed in few days, the cleanliness drive has been initiated to make the Sports Complex more pleasant and orderly for the big event.
Appealing to the people, he urged, to maintain cleanliness in the Sports Complex and to avoid the use of plastic products. He also stressed to safeguard the complex regarded, the symbol of undying sports spirit of the State. He also added that the event will also provide an opportunity to showcase the capability of the State in terms of sports and discipline of the youths.
The Games, a first of its kind, will be participated by nearly two thousand sportsperson from the eight states of Northeast India. The 1st North East Olympic Games, 2018, Imphal is an initiative of all the Olympic Association of North East Regions to embark upon a vision to build a strong nation in shaping the youths of the region. The Manipur Olympic Association under the aegis of the North east Olympic Association will be organizing the historic event of the 1st North East Olympic Games, 2018, Imphal. (DIPR)
