Imphal, March 23, 2022 (DIPR): Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh said that the present government has taken up various steps for the restoration of the Lamphelpat into a waterbody and a total of 475 acres has been earmarked for the purpose. This was stated by him at the Special Session of the Manipur State Meet on “Promoting Space technology Based Tools and Applications in Governance and Development” of MARSAC held at Classic Grande, Imphal today.
Speaking as Chief Guest of the function, Chief Minister said that such initiative of the government would control the flash floods in the Imphal City during the monsoon season, he added. The Manipur Remote Sensing Applications Centre (MARSAC) surveyed Lamphelpat area to select a site for water storage/wetland with the objective to control the flash floods in Imphal. Chief Minister mentioned that Manipur experienced major floods on various occasions last year. At that time, the Remote Sensing Data was used to estimate the area of agricultural damage and it was found that about 80% of the total agricultural areas were submerged under water. MARSAC is also developing a digital database of Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2014 using Remote Sensing Satellite, he added.
Chief Minister said that such Meet would present action plan developed for each Departments of the Government on effective use of the Space technology for better governance and development in the State. He said that the country is focussing on using various applications of the Space technology to enhance the economic growth. Space Technology takes critical role in realizing the vision of a Digital India, he added.
Delivering his Presidential address, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Y. Joykumar Singh emphasised on the proper usage of the Science and Technology and its significance to monitor various development projects and performance of different Departments of the State. He appealed the people of the State to make better use of the tools of Science and Technology to improve the lives of the people.
The dignitaries also released a flyer titled “Effective Use of Space technology” during the function.

Nidhi Kesarwani, Secretary Information Technology Shri Sumant Singh, Scientist-SG EOS, ISRO, Government of India Dr. K.R Manjunath, Director of North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) Shri P.L.N Raju and HODs of various Departments attended the function.
