Imphal, 29th June 2017 (DIPR): Education Minister Shri Thokchom Radheshyam Singh said the primary task for teachers and trainers while imparting training or education to students should be to make them able to tackle and fulfill their expectations and concerns. So that the youths become a problem solver rather becoming a part of the problem.
The Minister stated this while inaugurating Vocationalisation of Higher Education under Rashtriya Uchchattar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) as part of the 100 Days Programme of Government of Manipur at DM College Multipurpose Hall today. Under the scheme 12 trades in collaboration with 14 Industrial partners has been introduced in 29 government colleges and 11 government-aided colleges of the state.
Addressing the function as Chief Guest, Minister Shri Radhesyam said, the first and foremost expectation of a student after undergoing or completing vocational trainings/education is whether the skill education he has received will be enough to provide him a job. The purpose of the scheme would serve when the skill education received under this programme broadens the definition of employment and helps in solving the problems of unemployment, he added.
The Chief Guest stated that student should be trained to have clear vision about what they would like to pursue as a career, whether they want a government job or a private job or become an entrepreneur. The youths with skill education, should also be imbibed with innovative and creative idea to become productive and a catalyst for a positive change in the society. Only then, the unemployment will be solved and will help in improving the socio-economic and political condition of the state.
While addressing his Presidential address, Agriculture, Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Minister Shri V. Hangkhanlian said the Vocational Course is the need of hour and thus the best should be utilized for fullest achievements from the course so that atleast the problems of unemployment in the state could be lessen.
Parliamentary Secretary Education & YAS Shri K. Robindro Singh said skill and education in today's world has the same importance, and thus the introduction of vocational course in the college will encourage the student in opting for more extra curriculum activities. The scheme will also help in building the employability capacity of the students.
Commissioner Higher and Technical Education & YAS Shri H. Deleep said the introduction of Vocationalisation of Higher Education would help in brining equilibrium between the vocational training and the education especially for those who wanted to receive such training while pursuing for higher education.
Director University & Higher Education Shri B. John Tlangtinkhuma said the vocation course would serve as an important mechanism to check students' migration and unemployment problems in the state of Manipur. The MOU, also mandated the industrial partners for providing 70% placement and absorb about 30% of the pass out students in their own firms/units.
The scheme will be implemented from the academic session of 2017-18 in the third semester with the intake capacity of 30 students each in all the 40 colleges at the initial stage Level 4. While level 5 will be introduced in fifth semester from the academic session of 2018-19.
The trades identified include IT & ITES, Tourism and Hospitality, Retail Management, Computer Hardware Technology, Floriculture, Horticulture, Food Processing & Preservation Technology, Medicinal Plants, Fisheries, Media & Journalism, Rubber Manufacturing Technology and Automotive.
Around 40 Principals of different colleges, officials, teachers and students attended the programme. (DIPR)
