IMPHAL, 8 May, 2017 (DIPR): Forest & Environment, Horticulture & Soil Conservation, MAHUD and Town Planning Minister, Shri Thounaojam Shyamkumar today visited Nungba Assembly Constituency on his way back to Imphal after a 3-day visit to Jiribam district. The Minister was in Jiribam to review departmental activities. At Nungba in Noney District, the Minister met Forest department officials and discussed welfare programmes of the department. He also interacted with the local residents. Minister Shyamkumar also visited Noney where, he was given a grand welcome by the officials of the Forest department at the Longmai Community Hall. A memorandum with a list of demands was also submitted to the Minister. The demands included setting up of Forest department guest house at Noney, setting up of bio-diversity park, setting up of a nursery centre, package for horticulture and farming, public toilets at different locations among others. The Minister said that, he will discuss with the Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh regarding the infrastructural development of the area out of the Rs 150 crore sanctioned by the Central Government for the development of the Hills. Encouraging the people of Noney district to grow King Chilly (u-morok) and oranges, the Minister promised that the government will provide funds to the farmers. Addressing media persons, Minister Shyamkumar assured the local residents and Forest officials that, transparency will be maintained regarding welfare schemes undertake by the department with the help of the media and others. He said that, the government under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh is working towards giving benefits of various schemes directly to the beneficiaries. The Minister also assured that concrete steps will be taken up to strengthen the Forest department. The Minister also stopped at Keithelmanbi Forest Beat office, where he spoke with the officials regarding problems faced by the department officials. It may be mentioned that Minister Th. Shyamkumar on Day-1 of his visit to Jiribam District on Saturday (May 6, 2022), visited Jirimukh Forest Officers’ Office by taking a boat ride at Jiri River. Addressing the media persons, Minister Th Shyamkumar said the forest officials are looking after revenue collection from the forest products including bamboos which are transported through Jirimukh. The Minister said that, manpower will be increased so that the officials can collect forest revenue and implement the Forest Act. The Minister was accorded warm welcome at Jiribam Municipal Council Office, where he had discussions with the office bearers regarding welfare programmes implemented in the area. The Minister also inspected Jiri Bazar and inspected the surroundings of the market area. On the second day, Minister Shyamkumar visited Jiribam Horticulture Office and Progeny Orchard cum Nursery farm. He also inspected the Borobekra Forest Beat office under Chaudhrikhal range office at Kaisel Punji. Minister Th. Shyamkumar also visited Lamtaikhunou and interacted with the locals including women of the area. (DIPR)
