MINISTER SHYAMKUMAR INAUGURATES MANIPUR ADVENTURES & ALLIED SPORTS INSTITUTE COMPLEX AT KEIRAO

IMPHAL, MARCH 25, 2022 (DIPR): Shri Thounaojam Shyamkumar, Minister of Forest and Environment, Horticulture and Soil Conservation, MAHUD and Town Planning today inaugurated the Manipur Adventure and Allied Sports Institute Complex (MAASIC) at Keirao, Imphal East district.

Speaking as the chief guest of the function, Th. Shyamkumar stressed on the importance of time management and said MAASIC is a suitable place for adventure lovers. Regarding a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister through him demanding blacktopping of road from Keirao to Uran Chiru, he said the place can become a tourist hotspot if blacktopping is extended upto Santhei Natural Park, Andro.

He opined that simultaneous progress in the State is possible if there is no prejudice in development between communities, place or religion. Every area has its own speciality which should be promoted and used wisely for the growth and development of the area.

Assuring all possible help from his departments, he suggested that fruit bearing trees and flowers can be planted at the premises of the MAASIC and added that good work will always benefit the future generation. He further stressed on the need for cooperation from the public so that more developmental works can be taken in the near future.

Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh, Chairman, Tourism Corporation of Manipur Ltd, in his presidential speech spoke on the importance of promotion of MAASIC to attract tourist both inside and outside the State. He said the State needs to promote adventure tourism to not only earn revenue but also to generate jobs and hoped that the adventure tourism will become popular in the coming years.

Stating that the State should start preparing to take full advantage of the Act East Policy, Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh said tourism is all about promotion and advertisement. He said people’s support is required for creating good hospitability and friendly atmosphere in the State.

Manipur Adventure and Allied Sports Institute (MAASI) was established in 1981 under the directive of the Centre with the objective to guide the youths of the State in a constructive way by indulging them in adventure sports and activities like expedition, mountaineering and tourism both inside and outside the State.

Manipur Adventure and Allied Sports Institute Complex is constructed in 120 acres of land, fully set apart from Nongmaiching Forest Range and Rs 485.64 lakh was sanctioned for the project by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. The project aims to promote adventure tourism in the State.

The inaugural function was also attended by Shri W. Ibohal Singh, Director, Tourism Department, Shri PK Singh (IAS), Principal Secretary (Tourism), Memebers of MAASI, officials of tourism Department among others.(DIPR)
