VIJAY DIWAS DAY, 2018 CELEBRATES CM LAUDED ASSAM RIFLES AND ARMY FOR THE PEOPLE’S WELFARE PROGRAMMES

Imphal, December 17, 2021 (DIPR): To commemorate India’s victory against Pakistan during the war of 1971, State celebrated Vijay Diwas Day, 2018 today at the first Battalion Manipur Rifles Banquet Hall today.

Speaking as Chief Guest, Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh lauded the civilian programmes taken up by the Assam Rifles and Army in the State for improving the lives of students, youths and general populace. He said that Assam Rifles and army continuously giving medical facilities to our people by organising free medical health camps in remote and far flung areas. With an objective to know India more , they are sending State’s students and youths in other parts of the country and providing knowledge exchange programmes. Since such programmes are good, the Government will support and help them definitely by proving whatever requirements they need, the Chief Minister added.

Recalling his personal experience of childhood, even the SSB personnels and home guards were given training and sent to Bangladesh (the then East Pakistan) for helping the Indian soldiers during the 1971 war. Many of India’s air field were attacked by the Pakistan army. Many soldiers laid their lives.  After the victory of that war, on 16th December, 1971 Bangladesh was liberated. The whole world knew that in-spite of India’s victory over Pakistan, we didn’t occupy Bangladesh.

If didn’t liberate East Pakistan, the history might go to a different direction and there may not be Bangladesh.

It may be mentioned that the victory of the war and selfless sacrifice of the nation’s brave soldiers in the Indo-Pak war of 1971, on 16th of December every year, the country is celebrating Vijay Diwas Day. Yesterday being a holiday, the Government is celebrating the Vijay Diwas today, the Chief Minister continued.

Minister Agri, Vety. and Animal Husbandary Shri V. Hangkhalian graced the occasion as President.

Artistes of Shri Shri Balmukunda Dev Government Music College presented opening and closing songs. The lyrics of the songs were based on the beauty of the country.

Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretaries, top officials of civil and police, officials of different departments attended today’s Vijay Diwas programme.
