MANIPUR RANKED 1st AMONGST 8 SMALL STATES NITI AAYOG SEQI, 2019

Imphal, October 2, 2021 (DIPR): Education Minister Shri Thokchom Radheshyam announced that Manipur has been ranked 1st amongst the 8 small states in the Overall Performance (2016-17)  report of National Institute for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog School Education Quality Index (SEQI), 2019. Manipur had 68.76 points as against Arunachal with 24.64 points.

The 8 small states include all the Northeast States with Goa. In the larger states group Kerala ranks 1st with a total evaluation point of 82.2 % and Tamil Nadu in the 2nd rank with 73.4% points. Th. Radheshyam was speaking at the Press Conference held at the conference hall of Directorate of Education (S), Lamphelpaat. He congratulated every stakeholders, the student’s organisations, parents, teachers and enthusiasm of the students who are directly or indirectly working for the betterment of education sector.

He said that for the state of Manipur to be ranked among the top has been possible because of the efforts of people from all sections of the society. Hard work with dedication has able to bring a positive change in the education sector. Certain initiatives are being taken up. The central government under the MHRD has granted more than Rs 400 crore. The financial assistance will facilitate in developing infrastructure like laboratories, additional classrooms, and computer aided classrooms of the schools of the state.

Many feedbacks reached the Department through various media forms, social media and emails regarding the lack of infrastructure of schools. There are a lot of things to be done for proper functioning of education. The government and department are trying to do the best and many plans are in the pipeline to bring improvement in the education sector. He said that it is because of the collective efforts and cooperation that such achievement is accomplished

National Institute for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog and the Department of School Education and literacy (DoSEL) in the MHRD are jointly develop frameworks for assessing the performance of school education in all the States & UTs through indices known as the School Education Quality Index (SEQI) and Performance Grading Index (PGI). The primary aim is to identify the areas of deficiency in each state’s school education system so that targeted interventions can be made at every level from pedagogy to teacher training.

The School Education Quality Index (SEQI) aims to bring an outcomes focus to education policy by providing States and UTs with a platform to identify their strengths. The index recognises that school education is a subject on the Concurrent List and that State-level leadership is crucial for improving outcomes in a cost-effective manner. The index consists of 30 critical indicators that assess the delivery of quality education.

The press conference was attended by the Commissioner, Education (S) Shri T. Ranjit Singh, Director, Education (S) Shri Th. Kirankumar Singh, Additonal Director, Education (S) Hills, Shri Lerte Hmangte Kom, Additional Director, Education (S) Valley, Smt. Ch Sachi Devi and concerned officials of the department. (DIPR)
